As I approach 30 years of creating and teaching professionally I am struck at the stories and memories that my work holds. In my Image Gallery you will find some of these stories that I place in landscape and painting. They are held there and then released for you to enjoy and add your own stories and memories to! For more images or information please contact me or schedule a studio visit.
Fractured Spaces and Sand Castles
Color and Shape unify my work. I love painting into the memory of a landscape and then allowing it to tell the story of my experience beyond words. My landscapes are spaces of meditation, celebrations, solace, foundation and history. They are spaces of Grief and Joy, Anxiety and Calm, Strength and Weakness. They are Sanctuary. Interested in showing my work or purchasing? Contact me for PDF's of these images and more, I'd be glad to share. Jeanseauarts@gmail.com
The Structure of Religion
This series started in 2018 and reflects my struggle with the structure of the religion I grew up with and the reality of beauty and nature that nurtures me. I am fascinated by these buildings and religious structures we create, trying to define mystery and get it right, only to watch nature overcome and wear them down. Many of the buildings in this series are medieval churches from Bosnia and Serbia. These works are in both oil on canvas and charcoal/mixed media on paper. These are a few images that are from 2018, I don't post all of them. A few of my essential questions in this series
What will replace the church as an infrastructure for community?
How does religion evolve?
What is the significance of church structures in a community and what will happen to them?
What are the essential truths that function outside of religious formalities?
What are the truths that people seek that the church is not giving them?
Nature Remembered
The Pacific Northwest is my home. The light on a leaf, or the sound of a creek will forever capture me. I grew up on the side of a forest outside of Oregon City with the river in the front and the smell of trees everywhere. As I walk and hike the creeks and trails here the northwest I am taking pictures, looking, noticing and sketching. These images will form the basis of my paintings, sometimes staying true to the image and others wandering in the memory of the day.
Creativity and Curiosity
I felt, stitch, sew, weave and make. Sometimes I make enough of these little things to share them with you! Being an artist isn't just about making a painting. It's a way of life and of being. It's noticing. It's being curious. It's seeing what will happen and keeping "what if" right in front of me. If you are ready for some curiosity...and creativity, consider some private lessons and discover the what if in your own life.
